The Study Tour Has Begun!

As part of Research & Development 4, we have been working with local residents to create a "Catchment based Flood Management Study Tour" to visit places related to the initiatives of each research project as part of the industrial creation of the Hitoyoshi Kuma region. We are pleased to report that the first tour was held on July 10, 2023.


The tour consisted of the following activities in one day (the content and itinerary of each tour is different).


  1. Learning general theory of "Catchment based Flood Mnagement" at Higo Bank Hitoyoshi branch (Hitoyoshi)

  2. Catchment based flood management by IoT with citizen participation at Kounose village (Kuma)

  3. Biodiversity and catchment based flood management at Seto Tsutsumi Natural Ecological Park (Sagara)

  4. Teien Sabo (scenic erosion control) at Miyakouchi River (Asagiri)

  5. Rice paddy dam at Nanryo High School (Asagiri)

  6. Rain garden at Nanryo High School (Asagiri)

  7. Forest management and catchment based flood management at Nanryo High School Experiment Forest (Asagiri)

  8. Review of the tour and exchange of opinions at Ichifusa Kanko Hotel (Mizukami)

The first session was attended by people involved in the local tourism industry.

Participants commented that "they were excited about the spread of catchment based flood management efforts throughout the country," and that "seeing the sites helped them deepen their understanding."


This tour covered the above itinerary in one day, but we suggest a two-day, overnight itinerary. For details of the tour, please see the flyer below.
